york acorn running club home members news training club league veterans gallery links road running summer road league road championships millennium bridge race fixtures race reports fell running cleveland winter&summer; series championships fixtures race reports mill bridge races about us contact club history york acorn is a friendly, sociable, easy-going running club that was originally formed in 1982. with a mixture of ages, experience, abilities and interests (including road, trail, fell, cross-country and track) most runners will find something to suit them at our club. we participate in events at a local, national and international level and our members travel from all over the york region to run together. our members vary widely and include super fast race-winners, those setting out to achieve their own personal challenges and those who are happy with a steady run among friends. read more >> millenium bridge race, york , together with the city of york athletics club, hosts the annual millenium bridge races, which feature several races each targeting runners of different abilities. york and district road race league york acorn takes part in the local summer 10km road race league in which local running clubs compete in 6 races. our club hosts the knavesmire run. fell running fell-running is an extreme form of off-road running that involves steep climbs and descents, and often crosses exposed open moorland, with a good few bogs and rivers thrown in for good measure. racing friends a few york acorns racing in fancy dress and on the track. latest news millenium bridge races posted under events , news , race calendar . august 14, 2018 7:10 pm 7:30 pm we are pleased to announce the return of the 5km millenium bridge races. the races will be held on tuesday 14th august 2018. the course goes along the river banks of york and round rowntree park. the race details are here on line entries are here we look forward to seeing you may racing posted under news . london marathon was run in blistering heat, which did not favour our acorn runners adi gunn 3:11 , sharon lynn 3:59 and drew green 4:33. since then 35 members competed in the first of the summer 10km races at pocklington with paul whitaker finishing 5th, gill boyton, julie lawn both winning their age categories. both the mens and ladies teams finished 3rd. well done to all the tadcaster 10km runners, there were 35 of us racing on a fine summers evening. the ladies category leaders are julie lawn w45 category, and gillian boynton w55. in the mens area chris poulton ran superbly finishing 2nd overall with paul whitaker 5th overall and 2nd m40. in the m60s steve boynton made a welcome return to finish 1st and closely followed by dave lancaster mens team finished 3rd….our team chris, paul, robin, mark, kieron and michael all ran superbly kieron continues to improve..easily beating michael. other bits, tom craven knocked another minute off his pb, now well under 40 mins. matthew brown and julie raced away from me up the hill at 9km. tim stead ran brilliantly and easily beat me for the first time. chris price suffered from over racing (4 races in 4 days!) tim outsprinted laura to cross the line in just over 53 min trooping the trooper – four acorns ran this superb race in halifax, two (chris price and dave b) ran the whole hill!!! hats off to them. once the hill had been conquered the bluebells were magnificent and the calder freezing cold. ian april sunshine posted under news . club members deidre and chris went “over the hill” on the m62 to compete in the manchester marathon. it was dry, cool and not windy – ideal running conditions and so it proved with both coming home with pbs. closer to home a quartet acorns ran the thirsk 10. dawn gibbs 1st in category, mike grimwood superb 63 mins, drew who got a pb and tim gibson completed the team in 85 mins. round up posted under news . last week end saw acorns tim and jane visiting the landmarks of london – the mall (to see the queen [for tea?]), downing street (to see the prime minister), st pauls (to see the minister) and the white tower (to get your head chopped off!!) . tim completed the new london landmarks half marathon in 1:54, and jane in 2:08 closer to home chris poulton came 6th in the east hull 20. he took just 1 hour 59 mins – yes that does mean he runs at 10 mph….faster than i can ride my bike! marching onward posted under news , uncategorized . the beast from the east has struck, with snow and gales. there were numerous race cancellations, (blaky blitz, lincoln 10km, thirsk 10km, east hull 20) which impacted the racing acorns. in the peak district ian smallwood completed the grindleford gallop in 3.32 mins, a bit slower than previous years. last week end nicky gover completed the edale skyline fell race – 20+ miles round ridges surrounding the hope valley – it was english fell championship race this year so competition was fierce. mark e, howard and john ran the west yorkshire cross country in leeds. further afield chris, drew, and mark went for the warm weather option and competed in the cyprus marathon. ian london marathon and other april races posted under news , race reports . london marathon – on a bright and warm day paul w ran a superb 2:39, just afew seconds slower than his berlin time. new member adi gunn ran a great race but just finished outside the magic 3 hours., chris poulton cruised round in a leisurely (for him) 3:14. the roads and weather combined against our ultra distance runner richard gover who finished in 3:35. chris price and tim stead both successfully finished under the 4 hour barrier. out on the fells guisborough moors race saw pete murray and dave bannister in action round the north york moors. the summer 10km road series is now underway, and on a windy, but dry night, at pocklington chris poulton (fresh from london) led the team home. the mens v60 was a clean sweep with steve boynton, dave lancaster, howard winzar finishing 1,2,3. emily poulton led the ladies team in her first race in a brilliant time of 42:07. she was followed in by julie lawn who finished 2nd in the ladies v45, and gill boynton 2nd in the f55 class. the full results are here acorn pock 2017 on to the next race…. ian upcoming events august 14, 2018: millenium bridge races (7:10 pm) millenium bridge races (7:30 pm) © '18 york's premier running club
